How do you track website users?
Behavior Infuser uses Google Tag Manager (GTM) to track user behavior on your website. That information is stored on a server until a user logs in, or clicks on a link in one of your emails, at which point, we’ll know their Tessitura ID, and can push their behavioral information into their Tessitura profile. From there, you can use Tessitura to send them an email, add them to to a mailing list, or target your telemarketing campaign based on their behavior.
What data does Behavior Infuser collect?
Behavior Infuser tracks a variety of data about your website visitors ranging from what pages a user visits to what content they engage with. Read the full list of data points that Behavior Infuser tracks.
How do you identify website users?
We start by tracking all the people visiting your website. When a user logs in or taps/clicks on a link in one of your organization’s emails, it tells us their Tessitura ID. Once we have a user’s Tessitura ID, we collect all of their previous behavioral data and push it to your Tessitura server along with their ID. Now you know who the person is and what actions they’ve taken on your site.
What does the setup process look like?
Behavior Infuser connects your website to our server, our server to Tessitura, and Tessitura to your email platform. To make these connections we have to do the following.
First, we’ll set up your Google Tag Manager account to track users and push their behavioral information to our server. (In case you’re wondering, we’ll set up a separate GTM container to store all of our tags, so you don’t have to look at them.)
Second, we’ll ask you to run an installation script in Tessitura and install our reports.
Third, we’ll have you make a minor change to Wordfly that adds your customer’s Tessitura ID to the URL’s in your emails (this helps us to identify who they are when they navigate to the site).
For non-TNEW clients, we’ll also ask you to push a few key pieces of data to the “data layer.” Essentially, we ask you to make some additional information available to us on your website.
Lastly, you’ll set your preferences, build your lists, and create your email templates.
How long does it take to set up Behavior Infuser?
It takes roughly two weeks to install, set up, and test tracking and identifying website users, depending on client availability. Once behavioral data is being pushed into Behavior Infuser, all that remains is to set up and test your lists and email templates. Behavior Infuser does require its clients to perform a few technical tasks, which may require a web developer or Tessitura database administrator, which in turn can extend the timeline.

Where in Tessitura is the behavioral data stored?
Behavior Infuser stores all of its data in a custom table. In other words, it’s completely independent of all of your other tables. You can install or remove it without worrying about it affecting Tessitura or your other Tessitura services.
Does Behavior Infuser impact website performance?
There is a very negligible impact. We use Google Tag Manager to track your user behavior. If you already have Google Tag Manager installed, there would be a few bites of additional data being loaded by your site. Total load time is less than 30 ms.
Does Behavior Infuser impact Tessitura performance?
Behavior Infuser pushes data into Tessitura, which can slow down performance during periods of peak traffic. However, clients can request a sync schedule that suits their needs. For example, you can have Behavior Infuser sync to Tessitura late at night or early in the morning when your customers aren’t making transactions. It’s up to you.
Who should be using Behavior Infuser?
Everyone. Marketing automation has been around since the late 90’s (that’s right, marketing automation has been around since Hanson and 98 Degrees), and has grown into a multibillion-dollar industry, because it makes it so much easier to identify potential customers and generate revenue, than traditional approaches to sending email, which means incremental revenue, and more time for your staff to focus on other projects.
All that being said, it helps if your organization has some familiarity with triggered emails, and either have a Tessitura administrator and web developer on staff or work with a vendor who does that kind of work for you. You don’t need a web developer or a Tessitura administrator to run Behavior Infuser, but you’ll need someone with that background to set it up.
